New England Writers’ Centre (NEWC) is proud to present Pitch Independent, with the generous sponsorship of the University of New England and in-kind support from the Small Press Network.

Pitch Independent has a unique focus on giving writers and illustrators, at any stage of their career and whether regionally-based or from any part of Australia, access to the increasingly important publication opportunities offered to creators by independent book publishers & literary magazines. From fiction to non-fiction, children’s books to poetry, illustrated books to leading literary magazines, our Pitch Independent publishers and editors represent a wide range of literary forms.

NEWC have 14 publishers and editors attending, from some of Australia’s most prestigious and interesting independent book publishers and literary magazines. The publishersare seeking pitches across a range of writing styles, including non-fiction, allowing the academic community the oppportunity to pursue broader channels by which to share research findings and outcomes. The event boasts publishers and editors with the potential for high-impact publications.  

Pitch Independent includes a specialist afternoon pitch session for poets and a general pitch day for writers and illustrators in all genres. It will also feature a free public symposium on the significant contribution of independent book publishers & literary magazines to Australian literary culture.

An optional pitch preparation day will be held on Saturday July 28, the poetry pitch sessions and symposium on Friday August 3, and the general pitch sessions on Saturday August 4.
