The University of New England and the UNE Business School sponsored two key awards at the 2016 Western Sydney Awards for Business Excellence (WSABE) recently.

The Edible Bug Shop won the Excellence in Education award for their innovative ideas in environmentally responsible nutrition, while Vishall Sood of the Nucam Group won the Young Entrepreneur award sponsored by the UNE Business School.

Professor Alison Sheridan, Head of the UNE Business School, said the event was an opportunity to be part of a strong community recognising the significant achievements of people in Western Sydney.

“We are pleased to sponsor these awards as so many of our students live and work in this area,” Prof. Sheridan said.

“We have a very close relationship with local business leaders and are keen to strengthen ties by participating in events such as these.”

Prof. Sheridan was joined at the event by UNE Deputy Chancellor, Ms Jan McClelland, Dr Lou Conway and Associate Professor Fredy-Roberto Valenzuela-Abaca of UNE Business School and Mr Rob Field from the UNE FutureCampus in Parramatta.

NSW Treasurer The Hon Gladys Berejiklian MP was also in attendance and spoke of Western Sydney as a key business hub while giving a positive economic overview of the region.

The Hon Luke Foley MP, Leader of the Opposition and Shadow Minister for Western Sydney was also present and shared his insights into small business and the importance of innovation.

The event is celebrating its 26th year, and was held at Bicentennial with close to 500 guests in attendance. Other mentions of UNE’s contribution to this event come from articles in the Liverpool City Champion and Rouse Hill Courier.
