UNE’s Research Support Network has co-ordinated a four-day event of information sessions for HDR students.

Becoming Research Ready at UNE  is an online event, hosted on Moodle, for HDR students across all disciplines to learn more about the requirements of being a postgraduate student at UNE, the milestones you will achieve, and the services on offer to you throughout your time here. Split into four half ‘days’, these sessions comprise of a number of videos that introduce you to a number of important topics.

Day 1 (10am, May 19th) is all about what you’ll need to get started as a UNE researcher. Watch a variety of videos from different areas of UNE that will help get you up to speed with the confirmation of candidature process, ethics, scholarships and funding, using your time effectively, and how to make the most out of your UNE experience.

Day 2 (1pm, May 20th) focuses on commencing your research with three longer sessions on research methodology. This is followed by advice on how to effectively search databases, get started on a literature review, and some top tips on using EndNote.

Day 3 (10am, May 25th) focuses on data. You will be shown an overview about data management, the software programmes available to you, and how to use Cloud.UNE. There’s also a video on how to structure your thesis and some words of advice from current postgraduate students and UNE supervisors.

Day 4 (1pm, May 27th), the final day, is a summary of all those extra little things that will assist you in being a better researcher at UNE.

There are videos on author profiles and deciding where a good place to publish research is, as well as some academics discussing what it’s like to be a researcher in the 21st Century.

We also cover completion requirements and thinking about what you can do once your graduate.
