Message from the Acting Vice Chancellor: UNE Armidale Mosque gathering; Friday 22 March 2019 – 2pm – all students and staff welcome
The impact of events of last Friday in Christchurch have affected many in the local community.
On behalf of the University, we offer our thoughts and sincerest condolences to all those in New Zealand particularly from Muslim communities who have been so terribly affected by this horrendous event.
Together we reach out to New Zealand staff, students and colleagues at UNE with compassion and support.
Our University is home to staff and students from over 70 countries. This rich mix of cultures and faith is what makes UNE and Armidale such a vibrant and special place to live. Diversity of culture is a gift, which we should embrace and celebrate with tolerance, compassion and inclusiveness.
We acknowledge that many people wish to express their condolences and support to the Muslim community.
Therefore, the President of UNE Mosque Mr Hussein Megahed and I invite all staff and students to a gathering at the Mosque this Friday 22 March 2019, at 2pm.
This informal afternoon tea will be an occasion for UNE staff and student to meet members of the Muslim community to share and celebrate our support, inclusiveness and acceptance of each other.
All staff and students are cordially invited to attend.
Todd Walker – Acting Vice Chancellor
Mr Hussein Megahed – President, UNE Mosque
