Online students: timezones and due dates; what you need to know

Published On October 11, 2018 | By Luke | Resources

We’ve been getting a few enquiries about timezones, exams and assessment submissions lately.

It can be confusing if you are an online student and in a different timezone to us up here in  GMT +10 territory (otherwise known as Armidale, NSW) so we thought we clear things up.

If you are sitting an exam, and the start time is 9AM, that exam starts at 9AM at the place you are sitting it. We don’t want our Western Australian students sitting their exams at six in the morning during Summer!

Assignments, online quizzes and take-home exams

Under 22(c) of the UNE Assessment Procedures Rule, (unless otherwise advised) assessments need to be handed in by the time stated as it is in Armidale, NSW, not where you currently are.

Keep in mind also that NSW has daylight savings from the first Sunday in October to the first Sunday in April.

Your best bet is to google time in Armidale or check MyUNE (the time in Armidale is displayed in the bottom right-hand corner under the weather) with plenty of time to spare.
