English Speaking Circle: Thursdays in the Bistro; improve your English and meet other students
The English Speaking Circle (ESC) meets one day a week for two sessions. The meetings are currently on Thursdays 12-1 and 1-2pm upstairs in the ‘Stro.
We welcome domestic and international students, staff, and local community members, to participate in relaxed, friendly, guided conversation. The ESC is an opportunity for international students to improve their English in a supportive and social environment and to build intercultural skills, learn more about the world, and challenge stereotypes. For all students, the ESC contributes to a sense of connection to the wider UNE community by facilitating engagement with students studying in other disciplines.
ESC has both guided and casual conversations students can develop their conversational skills in a relaxed setting. It is a great place to make friends and take a break from traditional studies.
ESC is available for ESL students at all levels whether you want to have beginner level conversation, practice your verbal presentation (such as thesis presentations), or increase your vocabulary! Native English speakers are also encouraged to come and volunteer with us. All participants can benefit from being a part of ESC. UNE students can receive points towards the New England Award for participating in the ESC.
