Oorala 30: sunset opening ceremony; join in 6PM tonight (23 Nov) at Booloominbah
A special Sunset Opening Ceremony will be held at Booloominbah, University of New England tonight (Monday 23 November 2017).
Anthony Green, local musician and vocalist for Terra Firma, singing and playing his guitar before the smoking ceremony at 6PM .
Anaiwan Elder, Steve Widders will give the Welcome to country, followed by didge player Kristian Sternbeck and the Birabun Dancers.
This will be followed by speeches by University of New England, Vice Chancellor, Annabelle Duncan and UNE alumni Mrs Dianne Roberts, an elder of the local Anaiwan community and the recipient of an Honorary Doctor of Letters honoris causa (HonDLitt) at the upcoming UNE Graduations. The final speaker, and Director of the Oorala Aboriginal Centre, Mr Greg Davison will talk about the part Oorala has played over the 30 years, the importance of ceremony and direct us in the raising of the Aboriginal Flag above Booloominbah.
The flag will be raised at sunset to welcome the series of Oorala 30 events and to mark Oorala’s commitment to the future. After the ceremony a light supper will be served at Booloominbah.
