Technology and Digital Services (TDS) have completed testing of the latest Windows updates (October) and will release them to UNE owned Windows computers. These updates are scheduled to install within 7 days of release.
What Do You Need to Do on a Windows device?
You can elect to install the updates from the 22nd of October as soon as you receive notification that they have been made available (Software Centre will alert you when they are ready).
If you choose not to do the update at the time, we ask that you leave your computer running on the night of the 29th of October (end of the 7-day period). The updates will be applied automatically. Your computer will restart and be updated and ready to use again the following morning. If you choose to switch off your computer, you will be prompted to restart your computer after the 7-day period expires, to complete the update.
This will be the last update for Windows 10 provided to UNE managed devices. UNE will no longer be receiving security patches from Microsoft, and it will be unsupported, with security vulnerabilities that are found no longer being fixed.
As such, staff using Windows 10 devices will no longer be able to connect to UNE services commencing the 3rd of November. This will protect UNE systems and data from unsupported and unpatched operating systems.
Please reach out to IT Support if you are still using Windows 10 as soon as possible to avoid disruption. We have an upgrade process in place to make sure that each staff member has one device that is running a supported operating system for their work.
