Urgent patching and remediation work is required within the University’s IT environment to address a critical security issue. This work will commence tomorrow, Saturday 18 October, from 6:00am AEDT.
With Trimester 3 commencing Monday 20 October and Graduation ceremonies scheduled for 24–25 October, we are expediting this work to minimise any potential impact on students, staff, and critical operations.
What to expect
- Wi-Fi and internet connectivity will not be affected.
- Major systems – including printing, Content Manager (Trim), Barney file shares, and email – may experience brief disruptions as services are restarted. No extended downtime is expected.
- Minor systems will also be restarted briefly to apply required updates.
- If a service becomes unavailable, please allow up to 20 minutes for it to come back online before contacting support.
Why is this happening?
A critical vulnerability has been identified by one of our software vendors and is being actively exploited at other organisations. While UNE has not experienced any compromise to date, immediate action is necessary to protect University systems and data.
To reduce the risk of cyberattack, we are applying patches to all affected systems without delay.
Need assistance?
The Service Desk will be available between 9:00am and 5:00pm on Saturday by calling (02) 6773 5000. However, please wait 20 minutes after any service interruption before contacting support.
We appreciate your understanding and patience while this essential work is completed.
