TDS brings to your attention an ongoing extortion scam email campaign targeting our staff members. The criminals behind these emails claim to have hacked into your computers or webcams and assert that they have access to all your contacts, images, and videos. These emails are deliberately crafted to be threatening, with the criminals stating that they will release the images and videos unless you pay a ransom.
Here’s what you need to know:
– Email Sender: The emails appear to be sent from your own account or alias (firstname.lastname).
– Email Subject: The emails have various subject headings, including “No reply” and “Delivery status notification”.
– Email Content: The content of these emails is deliberately threatening and designed to invoke a sense of urgency to provoke immediate action.
Our TDS teams are currently working hard to reduce the impact of this email campaign.
If you receive such emails, please do the following:
– Do not respond to the email and do not pay any money via any means.
– Report the email as Phishing using the Report Message button.
For support, if you have responded to the email or have any questions, please contact the IT Service Desk on Ext. 5000, +61 (2) 6773 5000, toll-free 1800 763 040, via email at servicedesk@une.edu.au, or through the IT Service Portal on the UNE website.
Thank you for your attention to this matter and for your cooperation in keeping our network secure.
