What is changing and why?

As you may be aware, the university has been using Adobe enterprise licensing for its staff, which allows access to Adobe Creative Cloud and Acrobat Pro applications on university-owned devices. However, due to the increasing costs and complexity of this licensing model, including Adobe’s claims to customer data for the training of AI models, the University has decided to switch to a consumption model.

How will this affect you?

The per user licensing model will affect the number of licenses available for the university. The IT Services team has conducted a thorough analysis of the current usage and demand of Adobe software and has allocated enough licenses for existing use, based on their needs. However, this also means that not every staff member will have a license assigned to them by default. If you need to use Adobe software for your work, you will need to request a license from your faculty or department IT coordinator, who will be able to assign or revoke licenses as needed.

The per user model will require you to sign in with your university email address and password to access Adobe applications on any device, whether it is university-owned or personal. This means that you will be able to use Adobe software on up to two devices at a time, regardless of their location or ownership. You will also be able to access Adobe online services, such as Adobe Fonts, Adobe Stock, and Adobe Spark.

When will this change take place?

The transition from enterprise licensing to per user licensing will take place on 1 September 2024. Before this date, you will receive an email from Adobe with instructions on how to activate your account and sign in to Adobe applications. You will also receive a reminder email from the IT Services team with more information and support resources. Please note that after 1 September 2024, you will not be able to use Adobe software on university-owned devices without signing in with your university email address and password.

We appreciate your cooperation and understanding as we implement this change, and we hope that you will enjoy the benefits of the per user licensing model.
