We are happy to announce that the QuickSmart Basic Skills Assessor (QBSA) has been updated.

As many of you will be aware, the QuickSmart Portal was adversely affected by network issues during November and December 2023. We’re pleased to report that the root cause of the problem was finally located and resolved. Pre-testing has been unlocked and you can resume QuickSmart activities with full confidence. 

As well as a comprehensive overhaul of the behind-the-scenes coding, the following features have also been implemented:

Improved Voice Detection: Our voice detection system has been upgraded and should prove more reliable in noisy environments and be better able to maintain accuracy even with poor internet. Please note that it can still be triggered by other voices, so a voice-free environment is still required.

Improved Drop-out Handling: Of interest to those schools with unreliable internet; if you experience a drop out mid-lesson, the lesson will continue to completion and then provide you with the opportunity to download the lesson results. Those lesson results can then be manually uploaded at any time in the future.

QBSA space-bar activation now available to qualifying schools: Voice activation remains much more accurate, so the use of the space-bar with QBSA should only be considered as a last resort. Please contact our admin team for details regarding this.

Enhanced System Resilience: The Portal’s infrastructure has been upgraded to significantly improve system stability and reliability. This will provide continuous operation and service availability in the face of unforeseen technical challenges.

We are confident that these improvements will significantly enhance the reliability and overall user experience of QBSA and the Portal. Moving forward, the SiMERR IT Team will be working closely with the University’s IT Department to ensure more effective mitigation strategies are in place should they be needed in the future.
