Research Services was deeply sadden to learn about the passing of Julia Stobbe, one of their own last month.

Julia fought a brave battle with cancer over the past few years, but recently suffered a severe relapse.

She is remembered as a colleague with distinctive and razor sharp intellect, gifted in her IT and programming capacities, strong commitment to data quality assurance, and her relentless pursuit in achieving the best outcomes. UNE’s achievements over two rounds of Excellence in Research Australia submissions speak volumes to her ability.

Julia is remembered as a person who loved working in the Research Services Directorate, always helpful and approachable, making many friends, a person who knew and loved Australia’s environment, and a very deep thinker about many societal and philosophical issues.

She remained strongly rooted in her German heritage and was known for her occasional and generous sharing of ‘Apfelkuchen’.

Julia will be much missed.
