2A graduate Psychology student from the University of New England has taken up full-time employment at the New York University Langone Medical Centre in the United States.

Sandra Mulaimovic, who graduated last week from UNE with a Master of Clinical Psychology, secured her position as a Clinical Trial Coordinator in the field of Schizophrenia within the Department of Psychiatry at the Langone Medical Centre, following a clinical placement in the same department in New York in 2014.

Clinical placements are a compulsory component of the Master in Clinical Psychology degree at UNE, with students accepting placements in a wide range of locations.

Sandra says that studying at UNE gave her the flexibility she needed to complete her studies even while she was living overseas.

“The staff and lecturers at UNE were always very supportive, especially when I decided to move overseas midway through my degree for further study,” Sandra said.

“I was given the chance to finish my degree at UNE despite living and studying another degree in Europe at the same time. I don’t think any other university would have been so flexible.

“It was very challenging, but worth it in the end, especially now that my dream has come true and I am living and working in New York.

“Working in New York has a different dynamic to it. Everything is much more fast-paced and competitive compared to Australia, but you are also presented with opportunities you would not find anywhere else.”

Sandra enjoys her work with psychiatric patients and plans to stay within the research field for the time being. She also hopes to complete a PhD in the near future.
