The North & Northwest Community Legal Service Outreach Clinic provides free confidential legal advice and assistance. It is operating out of the Uni4Me Independent Student Advocates office, located in the top courtyard just across from Campus Essentials. The clinic is on-campus the third Friday of every month from 10:00am – 1:00pm. Off-Campus students can book a telephone appointment. Please telephone 1800 687 687 to book an appointment. The clinic can provide help with a wide variety of legal issues (eg traffic offences, AVOs, credit disputes, criminal law, power of attorney). The Uni4Me Independent Student Advocates will continue to be available at the office Mon –Fri, 9am – 5pm to assist with any matter that concerns (which could involve a referral to the Legal Service)
Mr Stanley Tao will facilitate the clinic. Stanley completed his Bachelor of Laws at the University of Sydney. Stanley joined NNWCLS after helping clients at various other community legal centres. He wanted to move to Armidale because of his desire to live in a close-knit community and his passion for table tennis and badminton. He is determined to make a difference to the lives of vulnerable and marginalised people within our community. Two members of the School of Law (Dr Kip Werren and Ms Bronwen Jackman) are board members of the NNWCLS. They regularly discuss with Stanley issues affecting the university community.
For students from a Non-English speaking background, Stanley speaks mandarin and the service can access the Automated Telephone Interpreting Service (ATIS) and the Translating and Interpreting Service (TIS).
More information on NNWCLS can be found on their website.
