2021 ALAA Conference – Boldly Academic: Defining, Supporting and Celebrating Legal Scholarship
This year’s Australian Law and Academics Association (ALAA) conference was held virtually on July 4th – July 6th. The conference was hosted by USYD and UTS.
The theme, “Boldly Academic: Defining, Supporting and Celebrating Legal Scholarship”, was chosen to enable exploration and celebration of legal scholarship and the role of the academic. A link to the conference is here: https://law-events.sydney.edu.au/events/alaa-conference
#UNELaw’s Professor Michael Adams attended the conference and was a member of the panel discussion “Changing legal education and the impact on academics”.
#UNELaw asked Michael about his experience at this year’s virtual conference:
‘I have been attending ALTA and now ALAA conferences since the 1990s, and have loved the interactions of legal academics across many of law’s sub-discipline areas. The in person chats and connections are always great from meeting old friends, like Emeritus Professor Dave Barker (former Dean at UTS Law) and new people, including former PhD students, like Dr Ling Ling at USQ. This year, the postponed 2020 conference, jointly hosted by Sydney Uni and UTS was a virtual conference, but still a great success. My Panel discussion, chaired by Professor Barker, and with Professor Kate Galloway and Professor Alison Gerrard, was all on the future of legal education. One of the consequences of this conference presentation was that I (with Dr Ying Chen of #UNELaw) were asked to do a video podcast for BenchTV, which will be published soon.’
#UNELaw’s Dr Ying Chen and Dr Guy Charlton also gave presentations at this year’s ALAA conference, stay tuned for posts about theirs.
