Sophie enjoyed studying Environmental Law with Dr Cameron Moore so much, that she decided this area of law was her passion.

Since completing this unit of study, Sophie has been looking for opportunities which will increase her expertise and knowledge in this area. After doing some investigating, she found a three week environmental law intensive course at Maastricht University in The Netherlands. Better still, two of her UNE friends, Shannon McDonald and Sean Guerin are also enrolled in the study tour.

Unlike many of the larger universities, the on-campus students at UNE all know each other. When Sophie was introduced to the students from other universities, who were also undertaking the Study Tour, she was in disbelief that the students from the same universities did not know each other. You see, the UNE School of Law on-campus student population is small enough, to allow law students to become friends, with both each other and their lecturers.

Sophie travelled to Europe in June this year and was clearly bitten by those pesky travel bugs, which permeate the seats of aircrafts. She has since been working in several jobs, whilst studying, in order to finance her trip.

Sophie is heavily involved with the School of Law community. In fact, if you contact the UNE Law Students’ Society, it is likely you will speak to Sophie. She is the current secretary of the society.

For Sophie, it is important she is able to travel whilst completing her degree. She is also hoping these addition experiences will help get her foot in the door, in terms of employment.

During her European adventure, Sophie will also spend time in London, Iceland, Paris and Amsterdam. In fact, whilst in Iceland, Sophie plans to snorkel between the North American and Eurasian continents. This is arguably one of the best places in the world to dive or snorkel. This is because of the pristine nature of the water and the underwater visibility.

Sophie will celebrate Christmas in Iceland, before travelling to Paris for New Year’s Eve.

We hope you have a wonderful time Sophie!
