An exciting opportunity has arisen in Trimester 1, 2018, for eligible students to apply to enrol in the Local Court Internship Program. This is a unit of study offered in conjunction with the Law Society of NSW, and NSW Local Courts. Students will undergo an internship placement over the trimester (typically one day per week) at a Local Court, and will be supervised by a Local Court Magistrate as well as the University Internship Coordinator. Placements are available in Armidale, as well as other locations around the state including Sydney, Tamworth, Moree, Parkes Children’s Court, Tweed Heads, Grafton, Queanbeyan, Albury, Kempsey, Wyong, Goulburn and the Upper Hunter.

Please note that you must have 72cp in Law, a GPA greater than 5 and permission of the Head of School to enrol. Permission to enrol in LAW397 Special Studies in Law (B) will be granted to successful applicants from the selection process which involves an application and an interview with the Law Society of NSW. More information about the application process is available through the NSW Law Society. Your application should indicate a preference from the above locations for the internship, noting that you will be required to attend the relevant Local Court one day per week throughout Trimester 1. Please note that applications are due by 1 December 2017.

Submission of a completed application does not guarantee that applicants will be successful. Candidates progressing past the application stage will be required to take part in an interview, scheduled at this stage for 18 December 2017 at the Law Society Office in Sydney. Interviews may be held in person or via videoconferencing. Successful applicants will be notified by mid-January 2018, allowing sufficient time to arrange enrolment for Trimester 1, 2018.
