The Australian Centre for International Agricultural Research (ACIAR) is launching a third round of support; the Alumni Research Support Facility (ARSF) aimed at early career researchers (ECR) to undertake research projects in ACIAR partner countries that build resilience and respond to challenges presented to agricultural systems due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

ACIAR alumni are invited to apply for grants of up to $20,000 AUD to support research activities with the ability to deliver short-term outcomes that directly relate to the pandemic and build upon a regions capacity to respond to it.

In the first round, ARSF1, 38 ACIAR Alumni received funding for their projects, most of which are now completed. In a second round, ARSF2, launched in 2021, the program was expanded beyond research projects to also include agricultural outreach and policy where they seek to build capacity and develop resilience in partner countries. A total of 28 Alumni received funding for their projects. These projects are now well underway.

The latest round of support, the ARSF3-Early Career Research broadens eligibility beyond ACIAR alumni to include all researchers who have an association with ACIAR projects and activities in ACIAR partner countries. It is targeted specifically to early career researchers (ECR), recognising the particular value to that ECR and their organisations gain from being able to design and manage their own projects.

If you are an early career researcher who is an ACIAR alumnus or is associated with an ACIAR project, click HERE to check your eligibility and find out how to submit your application.

Through the ARSF program, ACIAR has been able to continue investing in global research collaborations as well as scientific and policy capacity building activities in a way that directly addresses the challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic.  The ARSF is delivering the knowledge and technologies that underpin more productive and sustainable agricultural systems and more resilient food systems, for the benefit of developing countries and Australia.

The University of New England’s International Development group manages the ARSF program on behalf of ACIAR.
