DigEd are set to release EchoVideo’s dynamic branding feature on the 30th of April.

I’m sure everyone is familiar with our copyright bumper videos by now. In fact, every time you play a video, you’re required to watch them, as they are permanently embedded at the beginning and end of every media file in the system.

With dynamic branding, these bumpers will be integrated directly into the video player rather than burned into each file. This small change brings significant benefits to both user experience and the overall functionality of our media platform. Here are some key advantages:

  • Faster Media Processing – Since bumper videos will no longer be embedded in every uploaded file, processing times for media in EchoVideo will be significantly reduced.
  • Improved Caption Syncing – Closed caption files uploaded separately will no longer experience sync issues caused by the additional duration of the bump-in video.
  • Flexible Branding Options – We can now create multiple video players, each with different copyright and branding configurations. More on this later in the article.
  • Bumper Videos Display Only Once Per Viewing – When watching a video for the first time, the copyright bumper will appear. However, if you replay the same video, you won’t have to watch the bumper again. If you start a new video, the bumper will play once, then remain hidden on subsequent viewings.
  • Easier Copyright Updates – Since bumpers will no longer be burned into media files, updates can be applied quickly and seamlessly through the video player rather than requiring changes to every individual file.

This shift to dynamic branding improves both efficiency and user experience while allowing for greater flexibility in our media platform.

In addition to the above, it’s worth noting that downloadable video files will still include burnt-in bumpers, as this remains a requirement for downloaded content. Additionally, this feature is not backward-compatible, meaning older videos with embedded bumpers will continue to play in the previous video player.

As part of this change, we will introduce a new EchoVideo player called “No Copyright – Limited Use.” This player will be available in the MyLearn EchoVideo media picker and when generating embed codes from the EchoVideo web UI (see image below of the MyLearn media picker).

The “No Copyright” player is strictly for videos that do not require copyright bumpers, such as some marketing materials. For all teaching and learning videos in MyLearn, you should use the “Default Player.”
