The Library kindly asks that Unit Coordinators initiate Reading List set-up by COB Friday 30 May 2025 to ensure all subsequent library workflows that enable durable links and accurate copyright compliance can be completed prior to 16 June 2025.
There are 4 weeks left until students are provided access to their Trimester 2 2025 units on Monday 16 June 2025. At the time of writing this email, approximately 8.6% of units on offer in Trimester 2 2025 have a Reading List set up in the Course Readings System, E-Reserve.
Unit Coordinators are reminded that as per the UNE Online Learning Resources Policy, all learning resources provided by, or managed by, the Library must be stored in Course Readings System. This includes any 3rd party copyright material Unit Coordinators have collected from the internet and personal collections, as well Library resources such as links to online subscription articles, portions of print material, scanned (newspapers, textbooks), databases.
A note from the Copyright Office
With the beginning of the new trimester, the copyright office would like to provide a friendly reminder to Unit Coordinators to review the Copyright policy.
This policy applies to all staff and students. You must take all reasonable steps to ensure your teaching materials comply with copyright law and licencing requirements and must not knowingly expose the university to the risk of copyright infringement.
In practice, this means that you should:
- Review UNE’s copyright webpages to understand your obligations
- Consider whether your proposed teaching material is pedagogically necessary
- Ensure teaching materials are contained in your reading list
- You must not share materials provided to you through a personal subscription-based model (e.g. professional registration association/society, streaming services such as Netflix and Spotify).
- If in doubt, please reach out to UNE’s dedicated Copyright Specialist Emma Mckindley.
The copyright office is available for all copyright queries, licencing and permissions management, and bespoke training. Contact copyright@une.edu.au
Managing your Reading List
Unit Coordinators are reminded that the Course Readings System functions independently to MyLearn sites and thus can be set up and managed simultaneously to the unit LMS.
Common tasks that need to be actioned by Unit Coordinators in preparation for a new teaching period include:
- Rolling over an existing Reading List (e.g., used for the same unit, but from a previous teaching period) or
- Creating a new Reading List
- Adding new readings to a Reading List
Reminder: If you are rolling over, or creating a new Reading List for Trimester 2, please be aware of the following:
- Please review the rolled over readings and check all links for currency, relevancy, and accessibility as usual. If you need to create new links to resources for your Reading List, please use this tool from the UNE website: https://www.une.edu.au/library/teaching-staff/durable-linking-with-dois
- You will need to Publish the list once it is complete (otherwise the list won’t be accessible to students)
- Make sure you select the correct ‘predefined’ teaching period (see below), or other predefined teaching period as appropriate – e.g. in the case of yearlong units.
If you need assistance with your Reading List in preparation for Trimester 2 2025, please contact the Reading List team.
