The project to consolidate UNE’s video management platforms into a single system (echoVideo) is progressing. All Kaltura content was migrated into the equivalent echVideo library in May and we are on track to switch off Kaltura at the end of this month.

Link updates in myLearn

Scripts are running at the moment to update any links to Kaltura content in myLearn to the equivalent echoVideo recording. We are expecting all 2024 units to be updated by the end of this week and will then move on to older and archived unit content. We will share more information as soon as the process is complete but we don’t anticipate that any manual updates are required by unit coordinators in myLearn.

Videos will display in the standard echoVideo player in myLearn (Look for the “raspberry” colour scheme)

Link updates in Squiz (UNE Website)

The UNE web team is also working on updating any links on the public UNE website in the Squiz system. We expect this to be completed before the end of the month. Again, no action is required by you or the web editors in your area at this point.

Other links (on external websites, blogs etc).

If you have embedded Kaltura content in websites outside of myLearn or Squiz, eg on your own website, blogs or external systems, these links will need to be updated manually by you to point to the content in echoVideo. Info on how to create an embed link in echoVideo can be found here.

Keeping copies of your original source files

Although media is transferred to echoVideo, the (full quality) source media is not kept in the long term. Media will be compressed and the source file will disappear. In the majority of cases this is not going to be an issue, but if you have any important media for reuse in future editing and need to keep the original source, we recommend you download the source file before the end of the month.
