T1 will see some improvements to the way “tiles” are displayed on a unit homepage as well as the introduction of a new default set of tiles that will be consistent across all UNE units.

Consistent Tile Icons

To improve consistency across all university teaching sites and help students find the information they need in Moodle, a new set of tile images has been designed by the Learning Media team and applied to T1, 2022 teaching sites by the Learning Design team. These tile images have been applied to ‘common’ tiles, including the first two tiles in the majority of units (the ‘Unit Information’ and ‘Assessments’ tiles)  as well as other commonly used tiles like ‘Intensive Schools’ and ‘Discussion Forums (where appropriate). Please do not change these new default images or the order of these tiles.

Customised tile images, including those selected by Unit Coordinators, have not been changed. Generic coloured tiles that were used by default in some sites have been replaced by a new set of numbered tiles. If you would like to customise these tile images to suit your unit, please see the guidance below.

Tile Text Display

A new fix has also been applied to the way text displays on tiles:

  • Tile text will display underneath the tile image instead of over it
  • Tile images adjusted to show the full image, and appear at a 2:3 ratio
  • Each row of text will be as long as its longest title, with text limited to 3 lines of text for excessive titles, beyond this will end in an ellipsis ‘

Want to customise your topic tile images?

Staff in some schools are able to set their own tile images for use in Moodle. If you would like to customise your topic / weekly tile images, please make sure that you select images with a 2:3 ratio (ideally 200×300 pixels). Please do not change the default images in the first couple of sections.
