Guna

Guna hammering in another core.

At the start of May a couple of the UNE team, Guna (DPI) and Jole (Narrabri HS) tried to get the last of the annual sampling done on our deep soil project. We rushed down to Narrabri, got out and grabbed the cores for our microbial work between a couple of storms that had meant the use of our irrigation boots was actually required. As we washed down the heavens opened and the remaining twenty six cores for C and native site comparison work were abandoned for another time.

We returned to Armidale, looked at the forecast that Jon so kindly sends round, checked diaries, rallied staff, did the paper work and  got set to travel off the mountain again. Then this happens!

Narrabri may 2016

Namoi 256 km radar loop on the 26th May. Narrabri is in there somewhere….as is Armidale.

We know the industry needs rain and are thankful for it, but given we’d already overcome the hospitalisation of one of the crew and a jury duty call of another, we really thought we were on. Watching the rain gauge at Myall Vale hit 15 mm, what will tonight and tomorrow bring? Will we get back down the hill again or not. And if not, will there be sufficient satisfaction from squeezing coring tubes together at atitude. Gues we’ll have to wait and see.
