A trip to Reardon Farms last week saw Brendan and Oliver back on the case of compacted soils, but this time with the aid of fantastic soil pit for the National Grower of the Year Field day, held at Worral Creek. The event attracted media attention with coverage in the Goondiwindi Argus and Goondiwindi Plus More,  but the focus was more on Nathan’s Sharpe’s speech, Bollgard III accreditation and the Stuartville 14.48 ba/ha crop taking out the Cargill Award for consistency.

It was a great day out and a real joy to be talking about soil issues in a red soil that showed signs of compaction that appeared to be persisting from the days of 8 row cultivation and before RRFlex. Hopefully this really helped drum home the message that avoiding compaction today is much easier than trying to fix it tomorrow.

If you are concerned about compaction then keep in touch with Brendan and Oliver or watch what Oliver had to say on the subject last September.

Happy picking.
