Addition of Staff Profile Page Instructions to /uneweb/

October 8th, 2009 by lcreedy

The instructions for using the staff profile page form have been added to the resources at /uneweb/:

http://www.une.edu.au/uneweb/resources/. It is a downloadable pdf document.

If after reading or using it, you have suggestions for improving it, please contact cmsadmin@une.edu.au.

Change to Building Name

August 27th, 2009 by lcreedy

There has been an official name change in the drop down building selections for the staff profile template. “International Precinct - The Lodge (E21)” has been changed to “UNE International (E21)”.

If this affects you, you will need to edit your staff profile:

  • reselect your building (ie UNE International (E21))
  • save
  • regenerate
  • submit your page

before the change will appear on your profile page.

CMS Restart

August 26th, 2009 by lcreedy

The CMS will be restarted at approximately 9am on Thursday morning 27 August 2009. It

should be unavailable for less than 5 minutes.

The restart is required in order to change the location of a database

used by the CMS to a different server.

An email will be sent out on une-cms@une.edu.au when the work has been completed, and the notice will be posted here.

Web Publishing Guidelines

August 25th, 2009 by lcreedy

The web publishing guidelines have been moved to the UNEweb Content Management System and updated. They are going to be expanded over the coming weeks to contain help files and other resources.

Start at the UNEweb Hub: http://www.une.edu.au/uneweb/

That page links to policies, guidelines and related policies and includes a feedback form for suggesting what you would like to have added to the UNEweb Hub and resources. There is a link to a training page with a form to request training.

The resources page currently contains:

  • a guide to browser windows, and
  • how to use the redirect form.

FAQs that at the moment have two items:

  • how to request training and
  • correct file and folder naming,

and the guidelines area currently contains:

  • core standards,
  • file and folder naming,
  • writing content,
  • accessibility,
  • images,
  • metadata and
  • search engine optimization.

The next additions to the guidelines will be the guidelines and instructions for the specific page types that were established by the WWG (Web Working Group):

  • subject area,
  • new and amended courses,
  • Faculty and School pages.

Bug in tinyMCE!

August 18th, 2009 by lcreedy

There is a bug within the tinyMCE (the html editor in the Content Management System) version that the cms uses, and results in a link going to cms.une.edu.au and not www.une.edu.au. It occurs:

1. randomly in IE (which we knew about, and was why we wanted people to use Firefox)

2. intermittently  in Firefox **when there are spaces in the file names** (this is the problem we didn’t know about previously, and which took some time to find)

Interwoven/Autonamy (the product owners) are now aware of this bug and have released a service pack to solve this issue.   We are trying get the service pack installed ASAP, however this problem will continue to occur randomly until it can be installed.

How to fix the problem in the meantime:

1. make sure that none of your file names has spaces (they should not contain underscores, upper case letters or characters other than hyphens (ie not &) either - please see http://www.une.edu.au/uneweb/guidelines/filenames.htm)

2. use Firefox

3. if a user changes a DCR that contained these problem links, they will have to view each of the links in the page using the link button in the html editor, and click ok - that seems to ‘reset’ the links, and as long as there are no spaces in the filenames, the link will stay correct.

Next Drop-in Help Session

December 1st, 2008 by lcreedy

The next Drop-In CMS Help session will be held in the ITD Training Room:

Friday, 5 December 2008 - 1000 to 12000

Remember, this is a time when you can drop in to ask questions or get help.
You can also consider turning up during this time if you just want to try
something new and want to have help on hand in case you need it. This could
be the ideal way to get away from the phones and concentrate on the web for
an hour or so.

Remember, timing and duration may change depending on the ongoing demand.

(These sessions are not meant to take the place of the basic training
sessions, so if you or someone in your area need training, please let me
know and I will pencil you in for the next round of training.)

Web Publishers Facilitation Meeting

September 16th, 2008 by lcreedy

The next meeting of the Web Publishers Facilitation Meeting will be held in the ITD Conference Room, Thursday 18 September 2008, from 1100 to 1200.

It is important that each school is represented at this meeting as there will be an update on the Student Relationship Management (SRM) project (aka AskUNE). This is especially important, as we were to have this update at last month’s meeting, but it was cancelled due to lack of attendance. If you are a member of this group, and can’t attend please send someone in your place. The Meeting will be chaired by Ross Bennetts.

These meetings are a time when we can update the schools through their representatives at the meetings, on issues to do with the web, web publishing and the UNEweb Content Management System; give answers to questions the web team has been asked in the previous month as well as solutions to problems UNEweb publishers have encountered; and for the schools, through their representatives, to relay to the web team issues they face in the schools and make requests for improvements to make web publishing more efficient and effective. Lastly, and very importantly, it is also a time for the school’s representatives to network together, and share their problems, ideas and solutions.

It is also important that those who attend the meetings share information with their schools, particularly other web publishers. This group could make a difference, but we need the attendance of all the schools to make it work.

Just a reminder that unless you are otherwise notified, Web Publishers Facilitation Meetings will always be held on the third Thursday of every month from 1100 to 1200 in the ITD Conference Room.
