Timetabling would like to announce the release of a new function in the timetable display system.

In the top right hand corner of a timetable grid, you have the option to “Subscribe to this timetable”

This will download the timetable into Outlook on a PC, iCal on a Mac or you can choose to download it into Google Calendars.

As an example of how this may assist students in creating their own timetable, here are the four mandatory units of first year, first semester in the Bachelor of Nursing program subscribed to and downloaded into iCal.

For PC users, Microsoft Outlook will download each unit into an individual grid as can be seen via this link: Outlook Individual Grid

You can then choose to blend the calendars so the grid will appear like this: Outlook Blended View

At this stage, the function will still show every class in a unit, so for example if a student only needs to attend one out of four tutorials they will need to ignore the tutorials they do not attend. In the future there will be more improvements to the system where students can build their own timetable without showing classes they need not attend.

This can also be blended with personal calendars so students can view how personal appointments may clash with classes. Staff may find this function useful to blend their teaching calendars with their personal calendar.

The subscription function will work with all varieties of timetables be it unit or course timetables, staff teaching timetables or room availability.

Timetabling would like to thank our colleagues in ITD for their hard work in continuing to improve the timetable displays.
