FEEDBACK: IT webpages; Good v Bad?; Win a 2GB iPod Shuffle

Published On December 9, 2010 | By ED | News

UPDATE [Monday Dec 20 2010]: Thanks for your feedback folks and congrats to Karen Khan in the UK who was the lucky winner!

The posse over at IT are currently reviewing their webpages and need some student feedback (and we conned them into giving away a 2gb iPod shuffle to one lucky commenter).

Here’s what they want to know (and just for the record IT  pages can be found here).

We are trying to improve the IT website and make it easier for you to find the information you need. Please give us your comments on design, features and navigation.

Specifically:

  • How easy is it to find the IT website?
  • Can you find the page on Wireless Settings? If so, how did you find it? If not, what did you try?
  • Can you find the page on Anitvirus Software? If so, how did you find it? If not, what did you try?
  • Can you find out how much printing costs? If so, how did you find it? If not, what did you try?
  • What other things have you tried to find and found the process difficult?
  • Do you have any other general comments?

Give us your feedback (via comments) and you’ll go into the draw for a shiny new music playing gadget right in time for Christmas (Winner will be announced in Friday Dec 17 – UNE students only).

  1. THe IT website was easy to find – just type into UNE’s search button! (or contact Ed ;-) )
Easy to find the ‘wireless settings’ page – the left and right directories on either side of the webpage are clear and easy to locate.
I couldn’t see a ‘free antivirus software’ button so i searched in the search box! – easy!
I found the printing costs by clicking on student support on the left hand side – looky there – it’s the antivirus software info too!
Once i realised the ‘student support’ on the left hand side – that was great – i managed to be able to navigate easily within a few minutes.
    Great job!

•How easy is it to find the IT website?
    easy

•Can you find the page on Wireless Settings? If so, how did you find it? If not, what did you try?
Found it quickly on the right hand side of the main page.

•Can you find the page on Anitvirus Software? If so, how did you find it? If not, what did you try?
Found it pretty easily – went to the students link at the left hand side, then the software link on that page, there is then a link to antivirus.

•Can you find out how much printing costs? If so, how did you find it? If not, what did you try?
Again went to the services for students link, then there was a link to printing. 12c a page ;)

•What other things have you tried to find and found the process difficult?
Only thing I’ve really had to look up was info about connecting the the internet at the colleges for res schools. I’ve always been able to find it easily.

•Do you have any other general comments?
Not particularly, in my experience all has been good :)

I must admit that finding these IT pages (without Ed’s link) is not something I have easily done before. I do find the IT Alerts Blog very easily via the home page links for Current Students, though, but from here there appears to be no links to the IT homepage… so I resort to running a search. Look, there it is!

The page for wireless settings is easily found under the right hand navigation links by clicking ‘Wireless’. Easy and intuitive.

ANTI virus (check spelling in the survey question!) was fairly straightforward to locate, I used the left hand navigation under Support -> Students -> Software -> Virus Protection.

Printing costs were also relatively simple to locate, using the left hand navigation under Support-> Students -> Printing. Note that Step 2 on this page needs a spell check of the word ‘associate’ in the heading.

I’d like to also comment on the fact that most pages on the une web direct you to AskUNE when faced with an IT issue. This seems superfluous when most of the IT information you’d need in a pinch is on these IT pages… maybe a link or two is in order?

    * How easy is it to find the IT website?: I find it easy to find by going to the UNE homepage and looking in the index

    * Can you find the page on Wireless Settings? If so, how did you find it? If not, what did you try?: I found the link to wireless settings easily. I found it on the right hand pane

    * Can you find the page on Antivirus Software? If so, how did you find it? If not, what did you try?: It took some time to locate this link on the Software support page. Maybe this needs to be made more visible

    * Can you find out how much printing costs? If so, how did you find it? If not, what did you try?: On the same page as the anti-virus software on the left hand pane on links there is a printing link. This link provides information on printing costs

    * What other things have you tried to find and found the process difficult?: Contact numbers may need to be on the first page when you visit the IT page, therefore you don’t have to go on a big search to find the extension.

    * Do you have any other general comments? Overall, I have been happy with the service.
