COMP: Design a “BIN IT BETTER” Poster; $2000 up for grabs!

From Robyn Bartel, Chair of Talloires Declaration Implementation Committee:

You might have noticed the new red and yellow bins around the UNE campus? Well the idea is that everyone at UNE can now dispose recyclable waste (paper, glass etc) separately from non-recyclable garbage in these bins – but we need to promote their usage – so we need a poster! (UPDATE: Here’s what they look like – http://www.sourceseparationsystems.com.au/sys_sepstation.html)

Competition details:

  • Open to all UNE students, individuals or in groups, undergraduates and postgraduates, with a limit of one entry per student/group.
  • Entries must be a single A4 page promotional poster of the new UNE bins for recyclable waste.
  • PRIZEMONEY: First place $1,000, second $500 and third $250 AND $250 for Best College Entry.
  • Entries should be in Word doc format and sent as email attachments to the Chair of the UNE Talloires Committee, Robyn Bartel rbartel@une.edu.au with name, student number, college if applicable, and contact details clearly identified in the email.
  • Entries may be used in promoting sustainability at UNE.
  • Entries close COB 19 April 2010.
  • Entries will be assessed by an expert judging panel whose decision will be final and the winners announced on Open Day, Friday 7 May 2010.

This is another Talloires initiative. UNE signed the Talloires Declaration for Environmental Sustainability in Higher Education in 2005 and since then the Talloires Committee have been active in a number of areas to raise awareness across campus. 1. Hello Robyn,
Would you be able to supply the specifications of the current resource recovery system in use on campus at UNE? This will ensure that the posters and any other promotional material accurately portray the receptacles being used to recover useful materials from the resource stream for local recycling or reprocessing further afield. Specifically, I am interested in seeing the colour of each receptacle as well as the relative size and shape of the range of receptacles, and any modifications made to the lids to encourage users to be more accurate in their efforts of matching resources to receptacles.

  2. Is it possible to put a photo of the bins here for everyone that is not on campus to see?
