TIP: 3 tips for when things go wrong; fixing issues

We understand that occasionally there might be problems/issues/hassles/questions regarding your studies, University staff or University procedures. Whether it concerns not getting an assignment back or not being able to get in touch with your lecturer, a question about the exams or clarification of course information - there are things you can do to minimise your stress and to get these problems/issues/hassles addressed.

1. Talk to someone. If you can’t express your concerns to your lecturer, go to the Unit coordinator. Next step is Discipline convenor, and/or Head of School. The contact information is available via Faculty and School pages.

2. Keep a record of communications you have regarding the issues (keep details, keep facts).

3. Keep calm. It can be difficult but try to keep emotions out of the conversatons and emails. Anger is natural but rarely helps a situation. There are processes at the University for appeals and complaints that are designed to ensure the Student will be heard. These are much easier to get through if you can remain calm. So take a deep breath before you make the call, or write the email. Always a good idea to sleep on it if you can.

We at the Student Support Team find most problems will be solved by following these 3 steps.

Further information regarding complaints and greivances can be found through the Service Quality Unit.
