EXAMS: 7 tips for the big day(s)

With exams just round the corner (starting Wednesday week, Nov 11), here’s the top 7 tips from Kylie in the Examinations Unit:

  1. Read the exam instructions (via you webmail account) and take note of what is NOT allowed in an exam.
  2. Leave your mobile phone turned off and in your bag (important and easily overlooked on exam days if you are stressed). Students found in possession of mobile phones during an exam can be placed on misconduct charges for which academic penalties apply.
  3. Familiarise yourself with where your exam venue is PRIOR to your exam day so that you are confident in arriving on time and in the right place.
  4. Check with your unit coordinator before your exam to see whether you will need to bring a calculator or whether you will be allowed the use of certain texts, notes or other aids so that you can bring them with you on the exam day.  Electronic dictionaries are not permitted
  5. You need to bring your own pens, pencils, erasers (and spares). If required in the exam, you will also need to provide your own rulers or calculators. Calculators with ‘alpha’ keypads are not permitted.
  6. You do not need to bring your own writing paper, this is provided and you are not permitted to bring your own into an exam.
  7. The exam supervisor is there to assist you in case of any problem - don’t be scared to raise your hand if you notice a problem on the exam paper or with the venue.

And good luck from all of us at the Student Support Team (Ed, Meredith & Frances).
