Scammers, spammers and keeping your student ID secure …

An email is currently circulating with the subject line of “University of New England It Support”. This email is a well constructed example of a scam email. If you have received this email please do not respond.

If you have inadvertently responded to this type of message, please change your password immediately by logging in to http://my.une.edu.au and selecting the “Accounts” tab.

UNE staff and students are regularly approached by scammers attempting to gain illegal access to the University’s IT network. Generally these emails are in the form of an email purporting to be from the IT Department and request the recipient to respond and provide their University network access details (e.g. userid and password).

I would like to remind all staff and students that the UNE Information Technology Directorate will never ask you to reveal your userid and password via email. Accordingly please DO NOT reply to emails seeking this information.

While ITD intercepts and removes 95% of all spam received; some do get through to your email in-tray and the best course of action is to ignore and delete these messages as you receive them.

If you have any questions about this, please contact the IT Service Desk by phone on 02 67735000 (extension 5000) or by email to servicedesk@une.edu.au

Thank you for your cooperation and continued vigilance regarding these malicious emails.

Regards

Brian Cameron
Director
