The Association for Canadian Studies in Australia and New Zealand (ACSANZ) is pleased to announce the inaugural Canadian Studies Undergraduate Essay Competition.

The competition recognizes and encourages scholarship in Canadiann studies by undergraduate students enrolled in any faculty at universities in Australia and New Zealand. The competition has a cash prize of AUD $1,200.The essay must be on Canada or have a substantial Canadian component (e.g. a comparative study between Canada and another country/region). Entries should aim to demonstrate an understanding of Canada. We welcome entries from across a broad range of faculties, however the competition is especially suited to the humanities and social sciences.

Students are encouraged to submit an essay which has been prepared as part of their assessment for an undergraduate course.

The competition is administered by the Canadian High Commission in Canberra, on behalf of ACSANZ and will be judged by a panel of distinguished academics in Australia, New Zealand and Canada.

A valid entry comprises:

1. A completed cover sheet, including signed declaration by the entrant and university representative
2. An essay on Canada or with a substantial Canadian component, which is:
- No more than 2,500 words (excluding references);
- Double spaced and single sided;
- Appropriately cited throughout (including direct and indirect
quotations) and includes a list of references
3. Proof of enrolment (e.g. academic record or transcript)

N.B. Electronic entries MUST still include signed declarations on the cover sheet (it is recommended that entrants scan the signed cover sheet and save as a PDF document). The essay can be submitted in PDF, RTF, or any version of MS Word.
