GET SENT TO THE ANNUAL CONFERENCE OF ECONOMISTS!

The UNE Economics Society is offering the opportunity for two student representatives to be sent to the Economics Society of Australia 37th Annual Conference of Economists (ACE08) which is to be held at the Gold Coast in September/October 2008.

Through fundraising events that have been organised throughout this year,
the Society is willing to subsidise the expenses for two students in
attending this valuable conference, who meet the following criteria:

- Demonstrated strong interpersonal and leadership skills
- Demonstrated high understanding in the areas of economics, as shown
through their results in Intermediate Microeconomics (ECON201) and
Intermediate Macroeconomics (ECON202) or Welfare Economics for Policy
(ECON224)
- Preference may also be given if the candidate intends to undertake
further tertiary education (Honours or Postgraduate) in the areas of
economics.

Upon returning from the conference the successful student representatives
will be expected to deliver a presentation to the Society, the School of
Business, Economics and Public Policy and the University community. This
presentation will provide a summary of the conference as well as engaging
in a discussion of the outcomes and the students’ personal experiences.

The students will be chosen by a committee comprising a member of the UNE
Economics Society Executive, the UNE Economics Society academic
representative, Dr Maxine Darnell and a staff member from the School of
Business, Economics and Public Policy.

Applications for consideration for these positions should include:
- your current academic record
- a 250 word statement outlining your reasons for wanting to become the
student representative for the conference and why you believe the
conference would be beneficial to you as a representative

Applications close 4pm on Friday 29th August 2008.

All applications are to be returned to the Interim Returning Officer, Paul
Davidson:
