ITD-Info: VLE Upgrade (eSubmission / Site Profile) - Thursday, 10th September 2009

Tuesday, September 8th, 2009

On Thursday (10th September) ITD will be upgrading part of the Virtual Learning Environment (VLE). These upgrades will include changes to eSubmission and the Site Profile of your online units. To carry out the upgrades, systems will be unavailable for one hour between 7am and 8am on Thursday morning.

The upgrade will result in the following enhancements and fixes:

Message of the Day
The editor has been incorporated into the Site Profile. This will remove the failures currently being experienced. After the upgrade the editor can be accessed in the same way as previously or additionally (and preferably) through the Site Profile for each unit.

Class List
A ‘compiled’ class list of all the students in a unit will be available from the Site Profile. This will contain a list of all students separated by offering and will include their full name and email address.

Coversheets
Coversheets for assignments will be available from the grades page for coordinators to download and print if they need them, or wish to return an assignment that doesn’t have one using TLC’s dispatch area.

Auto Return Recording
If you use the file feedback area in eSubmission, you can now mark the assignment as returned via eSubmission with no extra steps or clicks.

Non-Standard Offerings
Special student groups (Callista “offerings”) - such as adjusted credit point offerings - can now be included in units through the search in the Site Profile of a units. This fixes issues with PREX-6 and PREX-24 type offerings.

Single Unit Re-enroll through the IT Service Desk
If you are having enrollment issues with your unit and students have not been added/removed automatically,  you can request that your unit is re-enrolled (within 15 minutes) through the UNEOnline Service Desk (uneonline@une.edu.au, via AskUNE or x3396).

Improved Student View in eSubmission
Student will now have access to two different views in eSubmission to access their assignments. A shorter, more condensed “list view” has been added to the current “detailed view” and gives students access to their submission details in a table style.

We are currently experiencing problems with our main Windows file server, Barney. Earlier issues with the server have been partially resolved but more work is required to restore full functionality.

Currently, you may experience problems mapping to Barney file shares or accessing applications that rely on the Windows file system (such as the Trim Records Management System).

At 5.00pm today, we will take Barney offline to complete the repair work and expect the system to be fully operational again later on this evening.

In the meantime, we apologise for the inconvenience the problem is causing.
