IT-Info: Distruption to Internet Connectivity

Thursday, November 19th, 2009

Dear Colleagues,

ITD has been advised by Transgrid, the providers of our internet connectivity to AARNet, that the optical fibre network between Armidale and Tamworth has recently suffered significant damage and requires an emergency cable repair to be conducted.

Transgrid advise that outage for the repair work will be conducted on Sunday 22nd November 2009 between 8:30am to 3:30pm inclusive.

All internet connectivity to UNE will be unavailable for the duration of the outage.

ITD has contacted TransGrid requesting that the work be delayed until after the completion of examinations however they have declined this request.

This disruption will not impact on campus staff and students using internal systems, however it will impact any internet dependant activity and external email.

Advice of this outage will be provided to students shortly.

Should Transgrid notify us of any changes in this work ITD will issue a further notice.

We apologise for this unscheduled disruption to services.

Regards,

Brian Cameron
