Youth Leadership Coordinator – Armidale, EACH

Role Purpose:

The position will:

  • identify, train and coordinate a group of young leaders (12 to 25 years) to participate in the planning, development, delivery and evaluation of innovative cultural and sporting programs that address local youth issues in Armidale
  • Identify and refer at-risk youth to other supports and agencies.

Key Accountabilities: (%)

•1.       Service Delivery (75%)

  • Establish, guide, and support a committee to oversee the program
  • Market and develop processes to interest and recruit the target group utilizing a variety of means including information sessions, competitions and ICT
  • Develop and implement self assessment, referral  and intake processes to assist in the recruitment of potential participants
  • Research, organise and support leadership training for the target group
  • Effectively communicate project expectations to team members and stakeholders
  • in a timely and clear fashion
  • Support young people to conduct market research and respond to local community needs
  • Support young people to develop project timetables, milestones and budgets
  • Identify and resolve issues and conflicts within the group
  • Model respectful and pro-social behaviour and attitudes to inspire young people
  • Support young people to identify and delegate tasks, consider resources and potential obstacles
  • Inspire, support and supervise young people in the development, implementation, monitoring and evaluation of proactive youth-focused activities of interest (eg sporting, art- based, career based) to a high standard
  • Coach, mentor, motivate and supervise young people, and influence them to take positive action and accountability for their assigned work
  • Develop and implement project evaluation processes and mechanisms
  • Ensure the timely collection and recording of agreed data and information in line with the agency’s accountability requirements, quality assurance strategies and professional standards
  • Provide advocacy services with, and on behalf of, the young person as needed
  • Refer young people to other agency services and to outside agencies as appropriate, including notifying authorities where necessary (eg ATSI services mental health
  • Ensure the delivery of culturally appropriate and sensitive service to people from ATSI and CALD backgrounds

Performance Measures/Indicators:

  • Project is delivered as agreed and the highest standards of safety and quality service delivery has been maintained 
  • Potential leaders have been identified and provided with training
  • A variety of marketing strategies have been utilised to attract participants
  • The committee has met regularly and has supported the strategic direction of the program
  • Market research was conducted to assess local needs
  • Evaluation processes have been developed and implemented

Networking (10%)

  • Critical Tasks:
  • Establish and maintain links with relevant schools, counselors, community support agencies, Land Councils and networks with a view to optimising services available to youth at risk
  • Participate and actively contribute in regional forums and networks
  • Maintain and support productive and co-operative links with relevant agencies, organisations and stakeholders.

Performance Measures/Indicators:

  • A positive relationship is demonstrated with internal and external stakeholders

Organisation (15%)

  • Critical Tasks:
  • Participate in staff orientation and Induction programs as required
  • Participate in staff meetings, program planning, professional development sessions and staff training as required
  • Undertake program evaluation requirements
  • Contribute to a workplace environment which supports peers, develops teamwork and ensures the provision of quality services for agency young people
  • Ensure all organisational accountability and reporting requirements are completed accurately and in a timely manner
  • Contribute to the further development of EACH’s services
  • Contribute to the development of EACH’s policy and protocols which reflect and promote best practice
  • Adherence to EACH’s values

Performance Measures/Indicators:

  • Participation at staff orientation and induction programs
  • Active participation in group, team and supervision meetings
  • All organisation and accountability requirements have been meet in a timely and participatory manner and to a high standard
  • Participate in training and staff development opportunities as agreed
  • Participate in annual performance appraisals
  • Fulfill other duties as required and negotiated with the Coordinator

The following services operate in NSW:

Reconnect. This program is based in the New England and Hastings regions and utlises community-based early intervention services to support family reconciliation for young people between the ages of 12 to 18 years who are homeless or at risk of homelessness

  • Supported Accommodation Assistance Program. The Glen Innes SAAP provides transitional supported accommodation and related support services, in order to help people from 16-25 years of age who are homeless to achieve self-reliance and independence and is based on a lead tenancy model.
  • Youth Connections. EACH is the lead agency in partnership with Moree Plains Shire Council and Tenterfield Family and Youth Support Service to deliver Youth Connections program. This program is based in New England and supports young people aged 11 to 19 years to attain Year 12 or equivalent to help them make a successful transition through education and onto further education, training or work.
  • Midnight Basketball. Midnight Basketball is a national social inclusion program to help Armidale youth identify and embrace positive opportunities and is auspiced by EACH in partnership with the NSW Office of Premier and Cabinet.
  • Community Support Service. This program is based in Glen Innes with outreach provided to Tenterfield and Guyra and supports Indigenous community members and their families by providing linking and referrals to a range of mainstream and Indigenous services and public access to the internet.
  • Armidale Youth Leadership Project: This project is based at the Girraween Community Centre and will support a group of young leaders (12 to 25 years) to deliver programs that address local youth issues in Armidale.

The position is for an initial period of 2 years.

EACH Senior Youth Support Worker – Moree

The primary purpose of this position will be to support young people (11 to 19 years) to attain Year 12 or its equivalent and to help them make a successful transition through education and onto further education, training or work. The Senior Youth Support Worker will achieve this by:

  • Supporting young people at risk to develop personal skills and competencies that promote wellbeing and support positive life choices
  • Assisting young people at risk to connect with education, family and community and to achieve successful education and transition outcomes
  • Working collaboratively within their Service Region to strengthen service delivery outcomes for young people at risk.
  • Supporting other EACH staff located in Upper New England
  • Liaising with stakeholders in the Upper New England area

On occasions, as directed by the Manager NSW Operations, the role will involve delivery of other EACH youth programs including the Reconnect, Youth Connections, Armidale Youth Leadership and Links to Learning programs. This will strengthen EACH’s ability to achieve our strategic aims of supporting continuity of service, succession planning and human resource development. Consequently, the person in this position will have strong and generic youth worker capabilities, able to be applied across a range of youth work.

  • Links to Learning Based in Armidale, this program supports students aged 12 to18 years who experience barriers to participating in mainstream education. Young people at risk who access Links to Learning are provided with development and support services to assist them to remain in or re-engage with education, training or employment. Participants are provided with opportunities and pathways into education, training and employment.
  • Lifetime Care & Support provides treatment, rehabilitation and attendant care services to people severely injured in motor accidents in NSW, regardless of who was at fault in the accident.
  • Community Aged Care Packages Based Hastings Region on the NSW Mid North Coast our case manager can plan and manage an aged care care package, tailoring it to individual needs to help with (for example) personal care, domestic assistance or help participating in social activities.
  • Veterans Home Care. EACH has been appointed to the Veterans Affairs panel of service providers in the North Coast and New England regions to provide care and support to veterans in their homes. Services include domestic cleaning, home and garden maintenance and social support.

 The position is for an initial period of 2 years, with the possibility of becoming ongoing thereafter, subject to a review and funding.
