Welcome to wireless
Now students and staff can connect to the UNE wireless network in key areas around campus as ITD launches phase one of the wireless role-out.What is the wireless network?
The wireless network allows computers to link up without the need for a physical connection i.e. a cable.
What this means is that it is possible for you to connect your computer to the UNE wireless network whenever you are in a wireless zone.
So when you’re in the library or having a coffee you can still access your email, documents and other applications.
How do I connect to the wireless network?
Connecting to the wireless network is easy. All you need is a wireless enabled laptop and a UNE username and password.
Instructions for configuring your computer can be found at www.une.edu.au/wireless and printed instructions are available at the IT service desk (ground floor of the ITD building).
Where can I access the wireless network?
This is phase one in the roll-out of wireless at UNE. Eventually wireless will be available throughout the university but at the moment it is only available in key areas.
The library (ground floor), bistro and cafe area and nearby lawn are covered by the wireless network. The areas shaded green on the map indicate areas where wireless coverage is available. Signs will be posted to indicate areas covered by the wireless network.
Wireless security
Wireless networks offer tremendous flexibility but also represent a slightly increased security risk. It is important for the security of all users on the wireless network that simple steps are taken to ensure the security of the network.
Existing users will be required to change their password to connect to the wireless network. A new password change system will ensure that the passwords chosen by UNE sers are secure. ITD recommends regularly changing your password as a means of protecting your electronic identity and the security of your files and emails.
Changing your passwordÂ
Staff and students can change their password by logging into myUNE. The account tab contains an option to change your password. Â
Where can I go for more information/help? If you are having difficulty connecting to the wireless network please contact the staff at the ITD service desk.Â
