Swine flu update

While there have been no confirmed cases of H1N1 (swine) flu at UNE, the number of cases elsewhere in the country continues to rise. To ensure we are prepared for a possible outbreak, an education and awareness program will shortly begin around campus. Posters alerting people to “coughing etiquette”

and the correct procedures for washing hands will be located in building entrances, washrooms, tea rooms, and common rooms throughout the campus, including the colleges.

International travellers arriving in Armidale from the United States, Mexico, Canada, Japan or Panama should remain home for seven days before returning to work/study and notify their supervisor accordingly. Anyone travelling to affected countries on University business will be alerted to the dangers of swine flu before they leave.

If you do become sick and are concerned about your symptoms, or they become worse, you should immediately seek medical advice by phoning your general practitioner, hospital or the H1N1 09 Hotline (180 2007).

The University is working with NSW Health to monitor the swine flu situation in New England region. If the situation escalates, the University will take additional precautions to prevent or minimise an outbreak on campus.
