Wikis
I’m certain there are not too many of us out there who have not come in contact with Wikipedia. Those of us familiar with these resource must find it mind-boggling in regards to the breadth and depth of information that can be found there. Sure there are issues about the authority of the material found on there and I know many of the academics here might be hesitant to source and quote material for this site and for good reasons. However for some it is the first point of call.
So what is a Wiki and perhaps more importantly is there a place for Wikis in the classroom? Stewart Mander’s article makes a good case for the use of Wikis in education. Starters, this is the third reading required to be summarised.
Perhaps the best way to get familiar with a Wiki is to become involved with one. Tony Brown’s unit EDIT 312 has a Wiki and Tony’s extended an invitation for EDIT 413ers to be part of the collaborative process and also a contributer. If you like to have a look go to the site at http://edit312.wikispaces.com/
If you wish to be able to add to this wiki you’ll need a Wikispace account. You’ll also have the ability to create and edit your own wikis if you do.
In order to edit the pages on this site you will need to get and account at Wikispaces. This also give you the ability to create your own Wiki.
