The 50th anniversary of Dixson Library’s opening in May 1961 has been marked by the launch of an exhibition titled “Cease not to learne until thou cease to live”.

The exhibition was officially opened by the Deputy Chancellor, Mr Scott Williams on Friday, 27 May.

It traces the Library’s history from the foundation of the New England University College in 1938 through to the present day.

Attending the exhibition launch were the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Jim Barber, and many former and current staff and supporters of the Library.

The exhibition is located on the Ground Floor of the Dixson Library and will remain open until October 2011.

ITD will be performing maintenance on University systems and services this Saturday, 21 May 2011.
 
Maintenance work will commence at 4.00 AM and will be complete by midday. During this period, there may be intermittent interruptions to the Library’s electronic services.

The Library apologises for any inconvenience.

The Library has arranged a trial until 30 June of two online Music Libraries from Naxos:

• Naxos Music Library (NML) holds more than 50,310 CD-length recordings equivalent to 723,500 tracks. NML includes a wide range of genres, and represent many Australian composers and performers. It also offers a wide variety of additional music resources including a glossary of terms, pronunciation guide, composer biographies and a senior student study area.
• Naxos Music Library Jazz (NMLJ). The NMLJ contains a comprehensive collection of jazz and blues titles: more than 3000 CDs. Artists include: Miles Davis, Bill Evans, Chick Corea, Herbie Hancock, Ella Fitzgerald, Duke Ellington, Gil Evans & John Coltrane.

Access during the trial period is password-based. For access, see the passwords page. After reviewing the Naxos Music Libraries, please let us know your opinion using the online Evaluation form.

ProQuest is once again operational. The Library apologises for any inconvenience caused by the Friday afternoon downtime.
