Blog Archive Problemo

Posted in Update on March 23, 2012 by rwaters8

Yaama All,

As you may be aware the links on this page to the archives don’t seem to be working, I am new to this whole blogging thing so as Bryan Adams said all those years ago…..  ”Please forgive me; I know not what I do”

I will endeavor to rectify this but I can’t promise anything as I am both new AND semi literate when it comes to this blogging stuff  and if I’m not able to fix it don’t worry too much because it was probably just me jabbering on like a monkey in a tree anyways.

Before I sign off please remember to take care of yourself, your community and each other…

UNE-4-ME

Posted in community, Update on March 6, 2012 by rwaters8

Yaama, G’day, Hello

UNE4ME is an initiative started in early 2012 aimed at increasing post schooling tertiary study within the local Aboriginal community. It will also look at increasing the numbers of Aboriginal peoples employed in the UNE workforce.

The first phase will be a UNE4ME taste day aimed at year 4-6 school children, bringing them in and introducing them to what university campus life is like. It will also introduce parents and carers of the students to a what’s it like to work at UNE? information session. This day will include guest speakers and role models and will be facilitated by the Aboriginal Torres Strait Islander Employment Officer.

Further development of the UNE4ME initiative will be rolled out soon aimed at broadening Aboriginal community engagement at all levels of UNE and spreading the message of inclusivity that is UNE4ME.

For more information don’t hesitate to contact me on the details below.

Warm Regards

I wish to pay my respects to the Custodians of the lands we are on and pay my respects to our elders both past and present. I also acknowledge our children, for just as our elders have lit the way for us in the past, our children will hold the light when we are gone.

Yaama, G’day, hello

I would like to acknowledge the traditional custodians of the lands where I live and work; I pay my respects to Elders past and present and also acknowledge our children, for just as our Elders have lit the way for us in the past our children will hold the light when we are gone.

As you may have guessed Yaama is how we say hello in my language, I am a Gomaroi man from down the hill at Tamworth (yes the country music capital) and have recently taken up the position of Aboriginal Torres Strait Islander Employment Officer here at the University of New England.

I am looking forward to living and working here in Armidale, but in saying that I have yet to do a full winter up here so we will see how much I am enjoying it in a couple of months.

Well that’s enough from me, but if you need to contact me please see the details below
