UNE4ME

Posted in Uncategorized, UNE4ME on March 28, 2012 by rwaters8

Deadly Australian actor Luke Carroll will be there to give a talk to the students

Next Wednesday the 4th of April will see the first part of the UNE4ME initiative rolled out with the UNE4ME day.

The day is aimed at Yr 4-6 Aboriginal students and their parents and carers from Armidale and surrounding areas. This event will be the first in a series of initiatives aimed at increasing engagement between the University and the Aboriginal community.

The students will hear from current Aboriginal staff members at different levels of the organisation and also from students about personal experiences of being here at UNE. The students will then have the chance to get up close and personal with well known actor Luke Carroll (pictured above) as he talks about his own journey with his acting career and the foundation that education has laid for him.

Talk with you all soon,

Robbie

Blog Archive Problemo

Posted in Update on March 23, 2012 by rwaters8

Yaama All,

As you may be aware the links on this page to the archives don’t seem to be working, I am new to this whole blogging thing so as Bryan Adams said all those years ago…..  ”Please forgive me; I know not what I do”

I will endeavor to rectify this but I can’t promise anything as I am both new AND semi literate when it comes to this blogging stuff  and if I’m not able to fix it don’t worry too much because it was probably just me jabbering on like a monkey in a tree anyways.

Before I sign off please remember to take care of yourself, your community and each other…

I Know Why The Caged Bird Sings – Maya Angelou

Posted in Uncategorized on March 19, 2012 by rwaters8

The free bird leaps
on the back of the win
and floats downstream
till the current ends
and dips his wings
in the orange sun rays
and dares to claim the sky.

But a bird that stalks
down his narrow cage
can seldom see through
his bars of rage
his wings are clipped and
his feet are tied
so he opens his throat to sing.

The caged bird sings
with fearful trill
of the things unknown
but longed for still
and his tune is heard
on the distant hill for the caged bird
sings of freedom

The free bird thinks of another breeze
an the trade winds soft through the sighing trees
and the fat worms waiting on a dawn-bright lawn
and he names the sky his own.

But a caged bird stands on the grave of dreams
his shadow shouts on a nightmare scream
his wings are clipped and his feet are tied
so he opens his throat to sing

The caged bird sings
with a fearful trill
of things unknown
but longed for still
and his tune is heard
on the distant hill
for the caged bird
sings of freedom.
