Secondary: To improve MWC Postgraduate and Honours student’s ability to design Academic Posters.

Description of the Competition: The applicants will submit a Poster which deals with current or potential academic topic in which students are involved. The poster can: (a) be based on the results of their investigations, (b) make a case for potential research, (c) describe a methodology, etc.

Deadline for Poster Submissions: before awards dinner each year.

Prize: $500 to the best Poster.

Judging Criteria: There will a committee formed by three (3) members of the Senior Common Room. This committee will be selected every year by the Principal of the College.

The three major criteria used to determine a winner will be the format and content of the poster, as well as the level of involvement by the applicant in MWC activities.

i)  Format: This aspect will consider components such as presentation, use of colours, clarity, the balance between text and graphics, structure, and simplicity of the paper.

ii) Content: The Poster will be judged by its facility to communicate an idea rather than by the idea itself. Important aspects are the use of appropriate language for the audience (e.g., the balance between technical language and more common concepts), the way the poster informs the audience, etc.

iii) Level of Involvement: More weight will be given to the quality of involvement in college life rather than the quantity of college events/activities in which a student chooses to participate.

Additional Support: There will be a free workshop on how to design effective posters in term 3.
